I bought a drafting table at Target as my recording console/desk. The height is adjustable, the table tilts (to facilitate screen viewing and fader ergonomics), has a shelf underneath (perfect for headphone amp location) and a small drawer on the right. There is a sturdy bar at the bottom edge which keeps my VF160's from sliding off the tilted table, and it's low enough that the cd trays can still open normally. Sorry for bitchin' lately over the shortcomings of the VF.

I still love this machine.

During the hundreds of hours I have spent with the VF I have learned (more often than not through this forum, thank you all!) loads of tricks of the trade. Cause if I had multiband compression and mastering limiters and 100 band parametric EQ I would not dig as deep into mic-placement, tracking EQ and general mixing techniques. someone wrote that going above an AKG C100S in mic quality was overkill. on that score i'm guilty of overkill then.

i have a rode NT2 and a rode NTV. the NTV is a tube mic and is very sweet. living in australia, the australian Rode mics were the best value. hey, nice to see some Rode users amongst you guys!

I'm presently working on some recordings that were done on a Tascam 488mkII that I dumped onto my VF-16. (I was in a group a while back and we had started another project before splitting up). Each instrument is on it's own track, nothing was recorded stereo.

The idea: make the drums and rhythm guitar sound as though they were recorded in stereo.
