Peak LED light on Trim stays lit & channel does not func

I just bought a used VF160. Channel 4's trim-peak light is always lit-up & the channel does not function. The previous owner mentioned that he ran a guitar processor with the output too high & damaged the channel. Is it fried or is there a way to reset it? If you have encountered this problem before how much would it be to repair it?

BUSS record using scene mapping

I'm trying to simplify my final mixing process by making stem mixes of my tracks. I have left and right panned rhythm guitars and center lead/solo guitar. Each one is recorded on 2-3 tracks. Guitar Left is on tracks 1,2,3. Guitar Right is on tracks 4,5,6. Lead/solo isn't recorded yet, but will probably span 3-4 tracks. My bass is also on 2 tracks. As is the stereo drum track.
What I'm trying to do is mix them down using scene mapping and BUSS record so that when it is time for final...

"no disk" error

I accidentally formatted my hard drive and gave it to somebody to attempt a data recovery. They failed, which is not a massive drama for me but now when I reconnect the hard drive the fostex will not recognise it and just comes up "no disk". It is the original 5GB fireball, and I can hear it spinning up when I turn on the unit but it will not recognise it. Any help GREATLY appreciated. Cheers guys.

Importing Wav files into VF160EX from Apple Logic Express

I'm trying to import two wav files that my brother recorded using Apple Logic Express. He exported them as mono, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz...which is how the wav files are supposed to be according to the manual. When i go through the load option, it automatically ejects the disc and says "insert disc". I tried more than one disc to make sure it wasn't the disc itself. Any ideas or tips on importing wav files that didn't originate in my Fostex machine, not mentioned in the manual?

Want to try and set up a small home recording studio, but I'm on a tight budget. I have been offered a VF16 for 50 GBP but the recording side does not work, no error message on the display. All setup menus work so all the effects work, it just doesn't go into recorder mode and thus all play, rewind, record functions don't work. The current owner thinks it is a dead hard drive. I need to upgrade my VF-16 because I'm starting to get failures in my JAZ cartridges. I should have converted to CD's long ago. I was tempted to try the Tascam 2488 but after doing some homework, I found many unhappy customers with machines that freeze up and customer support that does not answer emails. I have been happy for many years with my VF-16 but am now getting concerned that my 40+ JAZ cartridges may be unreliable backup. Any comments about the VF-160EX? It seems to be retailing...

ADAT to PC Question

Hi,
we use the VF160 ex to record the live performances of our band, that works fine so far, but Id like to do the final mixdown on the PC. What I want to know is:
If Id buy an ADAT-Interface for the PC, is it possible to dump the tracks from the VF160ex to the PC faster than in normal play speed? And: Is there any special Software required or can I dump directly e.g. to Cubase?

Some help needed in saving and loading data

Is it possible to save recordings to a Sony MINI DISC via and optical cable (SPDIF) and then reload them back to the Vf16. I have managed to save programs to the MD but the VF16 will not let me load them back on. I just get a load error. Can I fix it or is it just not possible to get this to work. Some advice would be most welcome.

does anyone know if it's possible to mix two tracks to a single track. (example i recorded my drum parts and used a live snare and a triggered rim shot) i was wanting to combine those into one track. can this be done? i'm trying to combine them b/c i'm running out of space. i've tried this using an example in the manual in buss mode recording but it wasn't working for me...any suggestions? thanks......

Syncing 2 vf16s together...Question

I'm running 2 vf16s in sync using only a midi cable and it seems to work fine...But I'm not using an optical cable from master to slave with slave receiving adat signal, even though I've been told to do so....Is there any danger in this?

I monitor the slave using 2 channels on the master and I use the digital out on the master to mix down to an external cd burner....and that's the reason I can't run the optical cable to the slave.....
What is the purpose in using an optical cable...

VF160EX WAV PROBLEMS

I save my vf160ex wav files to a cd-rw disc, and after I edit them on my pc with a wav editor program, It won't let me save them (overwrite the original files) to the cd-rw disc, so I have to save them to a folder on the pc...And then I burn them to another cd-rw disc....But then that disc won't load back to the vf160ex.....Could someone please tell me how to do this process sucessfully?
